Sa unang Linggo ng Adbiyento, apat na Linggo bago ang Pasko — kaya ang taon ng Simbahan ay nagbubukas sa huling bahagi ng Nobyembre o simula ng Disyembre, hindi sa Enero.
Adbiyento, Pasko, Kuwaresma, ang Banal na Tatlong Araw, Pasko ng Pagkabuhay at Karaniwang Panahon. Ang Karaniwang Panahon ang pinakamahaba at dumadaloy sa dalawang bahagi: sa pagitan ng Pasko at Kuwaresma, at sa pagitan ng Pentekostes at Adbiyento.
Berde para sa Karaniwang Panahon, lila para sa Adbiyento at Kuwaresma, puti para sa Pasko, Pagkabuhay at sa karamihan ng kapistahan ng Panginoon, ng Mahal na Birhen at ng mga santong hindi martir, at pula para sa Pentekostes, Linggo ng Palaspas, Biyernes Santo at sa mga martir.
Mga antas ang mga ito. Ang dakilang kapistahan ang pinakamataas at may sariling Misa na may Gloria at Kredo; ang kapistahan ay nasa ilalim nito; ang paggunita ay mas mababa pa, at ang piling paggunita ay maaaring ipagdiwang o laktawan ayon sa pasya ng pari.
Araw na obligado ang mga mananampalataya na magsimba at umiwas sa gawaing hahadlang dito. Araw ng Pangilin ang bawat Linggo, kasama ang ilang dakilang kapistahan na nag-iiba-iba sa bawat bansa.
