1 Now I declare to you, brothers, the Good News which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you also stand,

2 by which also you are saved, if you hold firmly the word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

6 Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers at once, most of whom remain until now, but some have also fallen asleep.

7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles,

8 and last of all, as to the child born at the wrong time, he appeared to me also.

9 For I am the least of the apostles, who is not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the assembly of God.

10 But by the grace of God I am what I am. His grace which was given to me was not futile, but I worked more than all of them; yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

11 Whether then it is I or they, so we preach, and so you believed.

1 Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

2 Let Israel now say that his loving kindness endures forever.

16 The right hand of Yahweh is exalted! The right hand of Yahweh does valiantly!”

17 I will not die, but live, and declare Yah’s works.

28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you. You are my God, I will exalt you.

36 One of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him. He entered into the Pharisee’s house and sat at the table.

37 Behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that he was reclining in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster jar of ointment.

38 Standing behind at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a sinner.”

40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” He said, “Teacher, say on.”

41 “A certain lender had two debtors. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

42 When they couldn’t pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most?”

43 Simon answered, “He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most.” He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”

44 Turning to the woman, he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house, and you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head.

45 You gave me no kiss, but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet.

46 You didn’t anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.

47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.”

48 He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

49 Those who sat at the table with him began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”

50 He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

Hildegard of Bingen was a German Benedictine abbess, mystic, composer, philosopher, and polymath who lived from 1098 to 1179. From a young age, she experienced profound visions, which she initially kept secret. At eight years old, she was offered as an oblate to the Church and began her monastic life at Disibodenberg, eventually becoming abbess. She is renowned for her theological, scientific, and medicinal writings, particularly "Scivias," "Physica," and "Causae et Curae." Her unique musical compositions, like "Ordo Virtutum," also stand as significant contributions to sacred music. Declared a Doctor of the Church in 2012, her holistic spirituality and intellectual breadth continue to inspire. She founded two monasteries and corresponded widely with popes, emperors, and abbots. Her feast day on September 17 celebrates her enduring witness to faith, reason, and the beauty of God's creation.

Robert Bellarmine was an Italian Jesuit priest, cardinal, and Doctor of the Church, born in 1542 and died in 1621. From a noble family, he entered the Society of Jesus at age eighteen, displaying exceptional intellectual gifts. He pursued extensive studies in philosophy and theology, preparing him for a life of profound scholarship and defense of the faith. He is renowned for his brilliant theological writings, particularly his "Disputations on the Controversies of the Christian Faith," which systematically defended Catholic doctrine against Protestant challenges. As a leading figure of the Counter-Reformation, he served as a professor, rector, and advisor to popes. Canonized in 1930 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1931, his works remain foundational for Catholic apologetics and ecclesiology. He is a patron of catechists and canonists, influencing generations of theologians. His unwavering commitment to truth and clarity in doctrine continues to inspire Catholics seeking to understand and articulate their faith.

Polish Archbishop of Warsaw, exile, and founder. Born in Wojutyn in Volhynia, Zygmunt was the son of a writer-mother exiled to Siberia and was raised by relatives. After studies in Moscow and Paris he was ordained for Saint Petersburg in 1855, taught at its Roman Catholic Academy, and founded the Sisters of the Family of Mary for orphans. Named Archbishop of Warsaw on the eve of the 1863 January Uprising, he protested directly to the tsar against Russian repression. Arrested and exiled to Yaroslavl on the Volga for twenty years, he refused to resign his see and ministered to the local poor. Released in 1883, he died at Krakowiec in Galicia. Canonized by Benedict XVI in 2009. Feast day September 17.
